Mostly what I need to do is this: switch my default mode from "lazing" to "working". Let's see how this goes. Law is hanging over my head in a very Sword of Damocles way. Poli sci research methods is tomorrow, I hope it is pansy. Environmental studies was today and it went fine. Three cheers for two-hour exams!

Mugabe is such a jackass: Zimbabweans are starving, partly because of the fact that he evicted the (white) farmers and replaced them with supporters of his who don't know how to farm, and yet he has time to strip-search BBC journalists and deny food shortages.

At least some jackasses get caught: Conrad Black has been charged with racketeering, which is far too cool a word for the likes of him.

And this has been our news roundup.

AGH. Have just scratched my nose with hands I just used to chop a chile. It burns, it burns.

Right now I'm downloading some tracks by the Queers. I had one already, and am now complementing the exquisite strains of See You Later, Fuckface with fine punk rock like Drop The Attitude, Fucker; I Wanna Be A Homosexual; Teenage Gluesniffer; and Like A Parasite. The chorus of the latter runs "Like a parasite/ I wanna crawl all over you." Awww, it's wuv.

Last night was quite awesome: a Katharine Hepburn filmfest at Steph's, followed by an impromptu coffee outing with Katherine and Other Jessica. The latter ended with an extensive and good-natured gabfest in Other Jessica's kitchen. I covet her apartment, apart from the sketchy dudes who were hotboxing the front entrance when we walked in.

Called my sister back today and raised a possibility I'd been contemplating earlier this morning in a hazy coffee semi-sleep. I was thinking that it would be really cool if we went backpacking together after we've graduated from our respective current institutions. She seemed quite enthused about the whole concept. I'll graduate from uni the year after she is done high school, so if she takes a gap year to work and earn airfare and I work for two months or so when I get home after graduating, then we'll have enough money to live like penniless vagrants on the Continent for eight weeks or so. Boopsie is mad cool and I can think of few people with whom I'd rather travel. She's not a picky eater, she's not quite as spacey as I am and thus would keep me from wandering onto train tracks and into crack dens, and she's almost always very pleasant. Her museum endurance is a little lower than mine right now, but give her a few years. We both speak French and would probably be able to learn a few phrases of German, Italian, or other languages. She can teach me about art, I can teach her about history and politics, and we will have a grand old time.

Dammit, there goes my tea. I guess I can take "can feed and clothe self" off of my resume.

Christmas shopping is in full swing. I hhhhate the Ottawa Wal-Mart. Every time I go there they don't have what I want, strange in a store the size of one of Jupiter's moons. If they do have what I want, then the service staff is so uniformly surly, inconsiderate and, frankly, stupid that I silently promise myself never to return. And yet I give it another try, just because I'm lazy and can't be bothered to think of where else I could find things. It is, however, always a mistake. No more Mal-Wart for me. Other than that, Christmas shopping is going quite well. Any requests, folks? I am hoping not to run into any embarrassing situations this year, either of someone having bought me something when I didn't buy them anything or vice versa. Always an awkward moment. "Here, I bought you something... too. It's, um... in my room." [Giftee exits at a run, rifles through Gift Drawer and returns with something inappropriate] "See, it doubles as an umbrella! Sorry I didn't have time to wrap it."

The plan for today includes several good hours of studying, followed by the making of eggplant parm and the watching of the Kaiser Chiefs DVD my cultural conduit-cum-roommate has purchased online. We are both hoping and praying that there will be no adapter problems. Sometimes DVDs don't work on a transatlantic basis, which I for one think is really stupid. So much stupidity in the world, so much of it at Wal-Marts and electronics companies... Sigh.

I feel really very good today. I don't quite know why, and certainly I have lots of work to do before exams are done, but I'm quite upbeat for some reason. Probably the Columbian marching powder, eh?

Today's post brought to you by our Word of the Day: Pantywaist. Try it today!

Oh, Angstoblog, how I have neglected you. This is not the happy-shiny blog, that is Capital, Capital. Only those who wish to see me at my most emo should read this.

Had another "oh, you fuckup" moment/hour today over having worn the wrong colour shirt to my choir concert (it went pretty well aside from that). So I came home in a big snit about it and probably freaked out a few of y'all readers. And in retrospect it seems like such a silly thing. At the time, though, I did what I usually do with minor problems: in my head, I made it into a metaphor for everything that is wrong with me. I stewed for a bit, and then I went "GNNHYARRRRRHHHGHAAAA" for about five minutes, and then spent a while feeling sheepish at my own massive, massive overreaction. All this is by way of saying that I do not know how I deserve such understanding friends as I have in my life. Anyone who is willing to put up with all the crazy is quite amazing in my books, and I am so thankful.

Have just returned from post-concert East Side Mario's trip. Scientoloflirt was there, defending China's policy of torturing detainees. Oh, Scientoloflirt. It's a good thing you're cute. And a member of Greenpeace, and thus side with me on global warming. Maybe he just enjoys the fringe organization side of things. Think about it: Scientology and Greenpeace? Thetans and whaling? It makes no sense. Anyway, it was me, Nate, Dave'n'Jen (they have only been Dave'n'Jen for a month, but it does suit them well), and some other Graham person were there. We shot the breeze, it was fun. The concert wasn't too bad -- the second half, with the Rutter Gloria, was a little on the "dusty" side, as our conductor would have it (this is his diplomatic way of saying "you dipshits don't know your parts!"). The first half was good, though. Biebl's Ave Maria didn't make me cry, which is a positive during performance. Usually the words of that one give me a little tear. "Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death" is just a beautiful sentiment -- no matter what, Mary's got your back. Right?

Anyway. I'm off. In the words of Hot Hot Heat, "goodnight, goodnight, you're embarrassing me, you're embarrassing yourself".
