Updatey!
My party went really quite well. There were something like 27 bottles at the end of the night, plus shooters, which is quite impressive considering that Bevin, Jacob, Ho #1, and Strumpet did most of the drinking. But nothing got out of hand; most of my fronds just get pink and giggly when they're tipsy. I was pleased that lots of people came, though. I don't entertain often (mostly cos Mum makes me clean the house before I do!) so it was lovely to have it turn out well.
In other news, my leg continues to be brokeny. Mum's making an appointment for us girls to get physicals, so I'll ask about it then. The Achilles tendon doesn't seem to be the problem, because the pain and tightness start above it. Also, the problem has mysteriously switched legs! It used to be my left calf that hurt, and now it's my right. OK, you are all probably spectacularly bored by this, but I'm worried it'll affect my running, so I've been a little preoccupied by it.
Jacob left for Ottawa yesterday. He leads an interesting life, that one.
Bwahahah! Hours of amusement to be had playing Twenty Questions with Darth Vader. But you do need to have Flash.

"I never could get the hang of Thursdays." -- Arthur Dent
That, in a nutshell, was my day. Jeanne may not be moving in with me and Katherine (more on that situation as it develops; this is a serious decision for all of us). I was late for work because I overslept despite having set my alarm for two hours and 15 minutes before I was supposed to work. I discovered that I forgot on Tuesday to show up to run with Becca, the second time I have accidentally stood her up in two weeks. BAD JESSICA. I had to work three hours late. And... that's it, so far. More complaining will follow later, I'm sure.
Jacob's back, too! I intend to put him to work making stuff for the party on Saturday. Hey, we took him in off the mean streets, man. Heh. Goodnight, moon!

Seemingly today was a good day to go running. I got one "Nice ass!" and one "Looking good, keep it up!" from passersby. Well, maybe not a good day so much as an attention-getting day.

It seems I found myself this year. I'm not sure whether I like me. Sure, I can stand up for myself when people I love and respect ask me to do things I find objectionable, but it would be awfully nice to be able do this in a way that would assure me of not losing said person or persons. Actually, just person, in this particular case. If you know what I'm talking about, you know who you are. If don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry about it, it's really not important in the grand scheme and (it seems cocky to state it at this point) I'm hoping it won't matter in another year. Right now, though, I can't decide whether I'm refusing to be steamrollered, or whether I'm just being a callous bitch to one of my best friends. A fine line, no? Anyway, I'm posting here instead of on PUTSA because I feel like I've betrayed the sisterhood, even if... OK, whatever, I am done now.
Life continues apace. My first bridal shower ever was today, for my mum's friend's daughter, and it was quite nice. It was Harry Potter themed, for starters, and that is always a good idea. We brought a Mandrake Cake, which is a rum-bourbon bundt cake with a potted plant in the middle. The potted plant should have dolly heads in its soil, evil-looking ones if possible. Yesterday was the choir party at Mrs. Penner's, which Kim and I crashed. It was a good time, and she really is an amazing lady. What other person do any of us know who would volunteer her house for entertaining teenagers? Aieee.
I am slacking off hardcore in my half marathon training. I should be at 18km by now, but I'm only at 16. Boo. But running keeps me sane.
Oooo! Sonic is playing Controller Controller's History, a most enjoyable song. "You're in for mass destruction/ You're in for gut reaction... You need to make corrections/ You need to pay attention/ Let us rewrite your history" indeed.

What kind of fucktard decides to buy groceries at 10:00 on a Saturday night? I wanted to go HOME, dammit. And I had ten people lined up at my cash desk, waiting with their $100 worth of groceries. Well, they can just go away. Anyhow, the shift thing with work played out just fine. Annie was the only supervisor giving me a hard time about missing work, and so I decided that I'd go with the other two supervisors' instructions to come for at least part of my shift. At work today, Mr. Reid, Rene from French Immersion, and Chloe from French Immersion all came through my till, in addition to my mum and grandma. Also, my supervisor (Jen) is super-amazing. She's pretty much the nicest person ever, in addition to cursing like a sailor and calling everyone "girlie".
Yesterday I had to stop Grandma from ironing my pajama pants. I did not succeed in preventing her from ironing my pajama shirt. "It's still wet" was her reasoning there, so I thought I'd let her have her fun.
I've been busy reading Dooce and widdling myself laughing since I got back from work. Tomorrow, the Monizes are coming over for dinner. Much excitement; they are lovely people and Mum is going to make this shrimp, peppers, and tequila concoction for dindins. It is most delightful. We made a special trip to Elsafadi Bros' today because they are purveyors of delicious spices and foods. Mmm. I got some pickled turnip -- yummy in sandwiches and wraps! -- and we stopped next door at the Paradiso bakery, which has uber-delicious things. Man. Given the amount of food I've been eating, I'd better step up my running a little. That, and the half-marathon is in a month and five days. I can feel the burning in my lungs already!
Also, psst! I'm probably gonna have a party in a few weeks. Anybody interested in coming, drop me a line! Y'all know my e-mail. I have to wait for Grandma to leave, but I haven't had a party in a really long time. So there ya go: your social event for the month of June. It'll probably be the weekend of the 24th.

Jacob left yesterday for treeplanting near Whitecourt. His life is so infinitely much more interesting than mine. I've just been working. Actually, I'm kind of screwed at work just now, it would appear. I foolishly stepped forward to cover a shift for a cashier named Chelsie, whom I have never met (as far as I know). I then discovered that, SURPRISE!, I am a shithead who can't read her own schedule properly and I actually did have to work during the shift I said I'd cover. So I called Chelsie back the next day, a day and a half before the shift, to apologize and say I couldn't do it. All was well, and Chelsie would find someone else. But then, later on in the day, I got a call from one of my manager's at Sobey's, saying that, SURPRISE! again, it is now my responsibility to get someone for this shift-that-isn't-mine. Oh, glee. And two girls definitely can't do it, one because she's going out with her friends. THANKS, unhelpful Jen-person-who-I-haven't-met-either. Anyway, it annoys me. Sobey's does this much more than Pier 1. I'm quite happy at Pier 1, actually. I had a client ask me where I went to design school, the same day as the manager who I thought disliked me said that she likes working with me, so I've been floating around on a little cloud of ego for the past couple of days. It's quite pleasant up here; everyone should join me, if they can ascend to my lofty heights. HA.
Boopsie had her grade nine farewell today. Mine seemed like a billion years ago; we've all grown so much since then. And y'all will be pleased to hear that this time they actually included the French Immersion kids in the video. At mine, they had photos of the same 25 popular kids, over and over and over, and completely forgot 34 kids in Immersion. There was great umbrage, I can tell you that. I'm still embittered about it. Nothing is more insulting than being forgotten.
Aside from Boopsie milestones, life continues apace. Grandma's here for Boopsie's grade nine farewell and will stay another two weeks. She's been quite fun so far. I ran 12km today, hooray. Katie and Keith came over Tuesday night before Grandma arrived and went for a bike ride alongside Jacob and me on foot. Apparently I made a passable show of being speedy, because Katie says I was trotting but good. I saw the new Star Wars movie, and it's both exhilarating and awesome and hilariously bad. In some ways I really liked it. And mail has been leaving our house at a great pace: first we had to send Jacob's work boots to him because he absolutely couldn't carry another thing, then we sent a letter he left for his ex-coworkers in the Ontario camp reporting that he may have Lyme disease (long story), and then I wrote Katherine a letter. If anyone else would like a letter, just say the word. Tonight was another fun night; I dropped in on Boopsie's fencing practice, and a bunch of her coaches are friendlies of mine, so we young folk (Paul, Tory, Heather, and James) went out for dessert and hysterical laughter after practice. It was grand. I hadn't met James before, so I must say that he and Paul seem much of a muchness. They laughed at all the same stuff and have the same long hair and are both uber. Well, as far as I can tell.
It hasn't been all spontaneous social interaction with my age-related peer group, though. I've also been reading voraciously. I'd been away from fiction for almost a year, so thus far in the vacation, I've gone through The Princess Bride, Watching the English, Beast, and Neverwhere, and most of Mort, Nausea, Dracula, and The Jane Austen Book Club. Today in Chapters I very nearly bought that On Bullshit essay by that Princeton prof, Harry Frankfurt, but restrained myself because I have no money. And besides, I am pretty sure I still have books at home to read. So that's that: I have to go now, because the books are calling me. Hopefully all will turn out well with the errant shift, and we'll see whether I am still doubly employed by the end of the week.
