Ways to waste a long weekend:
1) Let your boyfriend go to Calgary. Without you.
2) Get sick. We're talking the works, here: fever, coughing, sneezing, wheezing. I had to cancel on a babysitting job, which makes me sad because I need money. But when dragging yourself downstairs to the puter without falling over becomes work, you should not be looking after two-year-olds. Am I right? Yes.
Hey, I need to know if I'm a medical anomaly... my skin is doing that thing again where it causes me misery by being really sensitive. Whenever my pajama pants seam brushes up against my leg, it feels like shark skin scraping me. And my back hurts. And I'm exhausted, despite having slept for twelve hours. End of whinge.
Went to Bev's yesterday and made Hallowe'en gingerbread with her and Devin. Laura came just as I was leaving, which is too bad cause now I won't see her until Monday.
So dizzy. Farewell, and happy long weekend!

Holy mother, it's been nearly a week since the last entry! Wow. Free time flies when you have none.
Provincials was superfun. One aspect of Sundre High School of which I greatly approve is the gopher holes in the football field. Down with football, up with sports that wreck your knees through constant pounding on the ground, not through ripping, tearing, and other badness. The day was warm (21C at one point!) and runners were dropping like flies. Need I say this: DRINK WATER WHEN EXERCISING! Lesson of the day, that. After arriving home from Sundre, I went to Kim and Jen's birthday party, for all of two hours. It was also superfun. We sang some karaoke country music and did some Dance Dance Revolution. Sheldon and Vanessa are fricking amazing at Dance Dance. It's like nothing I've ever seen. And Kim and Jen seemed really happy with all their presents and friends all around the room. A good party. (I was strapped for a present for them so, Girl Guides to the rescue, I gave them each a box of the vanilla-and-chocolate cookies with a bow on it).
Anyhoo. I had a brief talk with Tom today, after school. I don't really remember much of it except a feeling of sweeping relief. It went something like this...
Jess: So, um, when are you going to dump me? Cause I'm sort of a shitty girlfriend and you're the one who's hard done by because I'm so busy and never have time for you. And when I do I just want to go home and sleep.
Tom: I'm not going to dump you. Don't worry, I wouldn't do that. Do you want to go home and sleep?
Jess [with feeling]: Yes.
Tom [with forgiveness]: Okay. I'll see you later, then?
Jess: Soitenly.
He's not mad at me! I can't believe it. If somebody was constantly ditching me like that I would dump their ass faster than you can roll your eyes and say, "relationships take work". But I guess Tom's just a good guy. :) So I walked home, and it was comfortably boring just sitting quietly in the kitchen having a snack (mmm, pita bread by itself!) and reading the paper, listening to a little music. I hadn't done that in a few weeks, what with XC and choir and "Alice" and all.
Parent/teacher interviews tonight. Much to my disappointment, Mr. Meston kept himself relatively in check. My parents probably think I'm making up all the stories about him. Mrs. Joy is much nicer when she's not dealing with large groups of people. Ms. Sadoway said I was "fabulous". Who knew?
Tomorrow is Elise's birthday. She will be THIRTEEN -- a TEENAGER. I have taught her the TEENAGER NOISE.

Katie and Kim cornered me today and told me I am a Bad Girlfriend. I have been cornering myself all week and telling me I am a Bad Girlfriend.
Really, I don't know that I have the emotional unselfishness to be so close to another person. By nature I'm sort of a sociable hermit -- people are fun alright, but I need my me time, to just read and wander the house. It may seem boring but just sitting at home making cookies or whatever is all I feel like I need to do, sometimes. Maybe it's the running; I never used to be like this, did I? But when you run you're just alone with your breathing and your tired legs, saying, "keep on going!" to yourself for half an hour.
New self-analysis just in! Maybe I'm just afraid of having my ideals of romantic love totally trashed, so I'm distancing myself. There we go. That explains the neglect and the white lies.
Guess what! The Dynamic Drama Duo (Sadoway'n'Frank) have decided to use the very first draft of my new ending to Alice in Wonderland to replace the original, gag-worthy scene. Huzzah! It's so exciting to put words in people's mouths.

Yes, Kim, gum. That's the new adolescent code word for HOT DIRTY SEX IN THE LADIES' ROOM! (see previous shout-out for that to make sense)
So. Life. I'm GOING TO PROVINCIALS! Hurray. At Wednesday's race, the weather was perfect. For the first 2km I was in 18th or so, with Katie just in front of me, but I finished 14th, with Katie just behind me. So we're both going! And Jenny was 5th, which is quite amazingly good, and Adrian 6th, ditto. Look at the Facey team go!
I get the bad girlfriend award for this week -- I was scheduled to go to this party with Tom, but I cancelled because it was probably gonna be just full of drunk strangers (good times), and instead I went to a surprise party that my friend is throwing for her friend, whom I know a bit. Tom just called to invite me to see "Kill Bill" with him and John, and instead of telling him that, I said that I was just about to watch a movie with Colleen and that she didn't like bloody movies, so I'd have to pass. Why don't I just tell him that I don't like parties where people drink, it makes me uncomfortable... That's the second lie I've told him in two days -- yesterday I said my parents said no to the initial party.
So yeah, bad, dishonest girlfriend. Tom isn't the problem. He's a good guy; doesn't drink at all or anything, and I really think I like him. I'm always seeing things that remind me of him or thinking of him, but some of his friends are just losers. They party every weekend, which just doesn't seem healthy, and talk all the time about being drunk. Why would anybody want to live like that, and only have fun when they've got something alien flowing through their veins? And it's not like it's something good like chocolate. I just don't see the point. And I went to Lori's party and had a fabulous time, free of any mind-altering substance but lots and lots of sugar. End of sermon.
Okay, i'm posting this now. Here we go.

Tra-la. Spare block, again (they do tend to recur). I'm sort of bored, despite having 3 different math assignments to be working on. Isn't it strange how I'd rather natter on about nothing!
Things that suck: Yesterday's run for cross-country. I was SO. SLOW. And very very tired and my race is tomorrow. Eeks. Also drama class, at the moment. Maybe it's the embitterment speaking, but I seem to be working awfully hard for someone with fifteen lines -- and that's /before/ we make any cuts. Then again, my acting is really very uninspired, so can we blame Sadoway and Frank (the Drama Department Dynamic Duo) for not casting me in a major role? In some ways it's a blessing: fewer bits of dialogue to memorize. Instead I can focus on the cheesy wacky songs. Oh, joy.
Last year's drama 20 class (Dracula) was so much more fun. Ms Cruikshank is a charming teacher, and the smaller cast meant you really got to know people. Also, there weren't really any students from the upper social caste, which was nice in some ways. You never really felt that you had to impress anyone (curse these social-climbing Capricorn instincts of mine!).
Things that are good: Yesterday was my one-month anniversary with Tom. We toasted each other with a stick of gum at lunch. What a time.

What a week.
Monday: Choir practice. Homework.
Tuesday: Ivy League information night. Write article for school paper. Homework.
Wednesday: Cross-country meet. Went into bathrooms to change out of disgusting sweat-ridden running stuff, emerged to discover that had been left at Goldbar park by myself. Hitched ride home with Jenny Hockin and her mum. Homework. West Wing!
Thursday: Cross-country practice. Frantic theory-doing. Piano lesson. Homework. Breakdown over homework.
Friday: Breakdown in math class over homework. Silent sobbing, tears running down face just like in the movies. Impressed with own subtlety. OR NOT. Cross-country practice makes all better. Then Heather and Colleen came over and we watched "The Sweetest Thing" (oh the dirtiness!) and made chocolate chip cookies and it was super :D
Saturday (oh! Nine hours until this stuff happens!): U of A open house (it's the place to be, yo!) and choir retreat.
Walked to 7-11 with Tom, Geoff, Chris Davies, and some other kid, Tyler maybe. Tom was wearing red pants with black shoes and I was wearing black pants with red shoes. heehee. Geoff killed a wasp by hitting it /out of the air/ with a stick. He was so proud of himself, it was quite amusing.
Hate math class. Keith and I commiserated for a while on the van back from Goldbar today: Mrs. Joy can't focus on the question she's being asked long enough to answer it, instead launching off on some theoretical sidetrip which is sure interesting (haha) but not really that relevant to our practical understanding of the question... aah. Hey, Keith had his driver's license revoked cos he's too blind even with glasses to drive, or so they say. Wow! That really sucks! But he doesn't seem to mind much. Just as well he likes biking, he'll be doing a lot of it.
